About the Hospital
In 1980, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Kasetsart University operated the Bangkhen Veterinary Hospital to serve the public and provide clinical training for students. While it treated all types of animals, the majority of patients were small pets like dogs and cats, with very few economic animals such as pigs, cattle, and buffaloes. Consequently, the faculty had to rely on government agencies, state enterprises, and private farms as training sites for livestock practice.
Recognizing the need for a dedicated dairy cow training facility, the faculty selected the dairy farming area of the Nong Pho Dairy Cooperative, situated close to the Kamphaeng Saen Campus. Initially, a temporary dairy health clinic was opened in a rented building located in Soi Ban Nong Ri, Ratchaburi. The clinic operated with one mobile veterinary unit, staffed by alternating professors and veterinarians.
Concurrently, dairy farming in Ratchaburi was rapidly expanding under the Nong Pho Dairy Cooperative. However, members lacked adequate veterinary care for their herds. The cooperative proposed a collaboration with Kasetsart University to establish an animal health center. To support this, the cooperative donated approximately 5 rai of land on Phetkasem Road to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The hospital, originally named "Nong Pho Large Animal Hospital", officially opened in August 1980. Over the years, the cooperative assisted in acquiring additional land to accommodate expansions, bringing the total area of the Kasetsart University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Nong Pho to its current size of over 17 rai.
