The Faculty makes internships an essential part of the curriculum. WIL is an experiential learning process that integrates academic knowledge with hands-on practice in real workplaces such as clinics, animal hospitals, farms, or related agencies, under close supervision by experts.
WIL is divided into 4 main types
| Type | Details |
|---|---|
| Animal Husbandry WIL | Practice at animal establishments (farms/animal shelters) to learn management, animal husbandry, and communication with owners. |
| Preclinical WIL | At a veterinary care facility, under a veterinary team, practising animal restraint and basic nursing skills. |
| Clinical WIL | At a veterinary care facility under the supervision of a veterinarian, formally participating in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. |
| Professional (Non-Clinical) WIL | At establishments related to the profession but not direct clinical treatment, such as government agencies, veterinary businesses, diagnostic laboratories, and animal-welfare organizations. |
Throughout the curriculum, students must complete at least 52 weeks
Preclinical level (Pre-clinic) — at least 12 weeks
| Type of training | Minimum duration | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Animal Husbandry WIL | ≥ 6 weeks | All 3 groups: economic animals (cattle, buffalo, goats, sheep/swine/poultry), horses, and companion animals (dogs, cats, exotic pets) |
| Pre-clinical WIL | ≥ 2 weeks | Training at an establishment under the supervision of a veterinarian |
| In-faculty training | ≥ 30 hours/year | Training at the KU Veterinary Teaching Hospital (Bangkhen Campus) |
Clinical level (Clinic) — at least 40 weeks

The Faculty supports travel costs for students undertaking internships outside the university, based on distance (reimbursable once per academic year, referring to the farthest training site in that year).
| Distance from the university | Reimbursable amount |
|---|---|
| Up to 500 kilometers | 1,000 THB |
| More than 500 kilometers | 2,000 THB |
Every student is covered by accident insurance that the university provides each year. In the event of an accident or illness during an internship, students may exercise their rights under the National Health Security scheme and/or the university’s accident insurance, and should promptly notify the Academic Service Unit of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
